Little India in Brickfields Kuala Lumpur- Deepavali Celebrations

Deepavali or Diwali, one of the major festivals in Malaysia is around the corner again. In Little India, Brickfield, the area really comes alive….

How to get to Little India in Brickfields:

Via public transport-

  • take either the Putra LRT and stop at KL Sentral Stop
  • take the KL Monorail and stop at KL Sentral stop

Previously, the road is a two way- now, the roads have been altered to one way- so there seemed to be a massive jam there- even on Sundays. It’s worse now that the jam has spread to the back roads near the houses. If you are driving,  do come by Bangsar and when you reach Brickfields, you have to turn left (can’t turn right coz it’s one way now)- park along the housing area and then walk to Little India.

Above: Sri Kota- it used to be a popular landmark and the store has been around for decades.

In Little India in Brickfield, you can get many things- from authentic Indian food, savories, clothes, accessories, decorations, spices, etc.

Above: Diwali decoration- I think the light above is sold for less than RM20. Lesser fire hazard since it operates using light bulbs.

As the festive draws closer, there will be many who would need to do last minute shopping. So the area would be quite jam- day and night.

My friend told me that we can get quite a lot of reasonably priced punjabi suits and clothings there- but you gotta bargain.

In subsequent posts, I would feature some of my favorite shops here 🙂

  3. Hi Reshvin,
If not mistaken, the rental of the stalls is under the purview of DBKL (Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur). You may try to check with them for further info.
