Few years ago, we had some visitors from Korea and Taiwan who wanted to get some bindi as souveniors back hom, a forehead decoration wore by the ladies. We took them to New Malliga in Brickfields as there were more variety of various accessories there:
This time, I went into the store and ask the boss if I can take some pictures. These pictures were taken with consent.
The decorations and custom jewelry comes in all colours and designs. If you are visiting Malaysia, do check out stores like this- it would give you and insight into the culture here 🙂
After that, we took them to dinner at Vitya (it’s now no more) to eat thosai masala, spiced chicken, etc.
Personally I bought a lot of sandalwood from Malliga too- I like the fragrance. If you buy the sandalwood like Tusita sandalwood from stores that do not sell specialised Indian products, it would be expensive. But here, the price is quite reasonable and there are a lot of variety. If you want any cheaper, would need to go to India to get them…
The store also sell the prepacked ones that have very strong fragrance like neem and is very cheap. Usually, during my home spring cleaning, I would burn these sandalwood and placed them under beds or in the corners of my house- I read somewhere that it’s good to ward off negative and stale energies. Well, I do feel the house looking brighter after that.
