In the heart of Kuala Lumpur, you can still find delicious, nutritious and relatively inexpensive vegetarian food. It is a temple located near KLCC:
Opening Hours: Monday to Friday 11am to 2pm (dinner not available and also not opened on public holidays).
During lunch time (from 12.15pm onwards till 1.30pm), there are a lot of people going there because the food is healthy, a lot of different varieties, inexpensive and contains no MSG. Sea salt and brown sugar instead of normal salt and white sugar are used in their cooking.
How to get there: via LRT train
- Stop at KLCC stop- from KLCC, walk in the direction where KLCC is on your left and Avenue K is on your left (opposite side of the road). As you walk, you will pass Wisma Central, Pelita restaurant and a restaurant on your right before reaching the temple.
- Stop at Ampang Park stop- after you get down from the LRT, walk towards the direction of Citibank tower, then pass Wisma MCA and Celcom. After that, you will see the temple. The entrance is as below:
Walk towards the back and you can see the canteen style area that sells vegetarian food. Here’s the menu based on the last time I went there and taken photo in 2008:
You can find the following food- all cooked in vegetarian:
- mixed rice dishes- there are more than 20 dishes to choose from
- the day’s specials- sometimes is wantan mee, chicken rice (on Thursdays), pan mee, etc
- healthy vegetarian corner- menu varies from day to day: sushi, salad, spaghetti, healthy mee soup
- fruits/drinks.
- biscuits or if in conjunction of certain festivals, bak chang, pineapple tarts, mooncakes are sold as well.
The place is not air-conditioned – it has an open (but covered) canteen setting. If you are a vegetarian, the place’s truly a haven for you. The food there is really a vegetarian’s haven- you’ll probably no be able to find any vegetarian food that is inexpensive, nutritious, free of MSG in many places- not to mention right in the heart of Kuala Lumpur city center.
